Tangram Puzzle - www.tangram-channel.com

The ancient Chinese art of tangram puzzles is a popular mathematical problem solving activity, finely tuned to bring out the best in pupils.

The tangram puzzle consists of 7 geometric pieces which are normally boxed in the shape of a square. The pieces, called 'tans', are used to create different patterns including animals, people, numbers, geometric shapes and many more.

For example, the tangram animals group calls for the tans to be arranged into the silhouettes of cats, rabbits, birds . . .

The tangram could almost be described as a reverse jigsaw puzzle, as the student begins with a complete set of pieces assembled together in a flat organisation. The idea is to them dissemble the pieces and rearrange them in such a way as to create the desired image.

Ideal as a means of testing psychological and creative temperaments, tangram patterns can hold a wealth of opportunities for original and practical learning.

I encountered the rectangular tangram in Moscow in 1985. The russians call this "Galavalomka" and there were 99 shapes to be made. My paper is so tattered and since 1985, I have completed only 43%, but I have invented lots of shapes (that are not on the list). I was under the impression that most beautiful shapes had to have a line of symmetry.
My kids, who are grown-ups now, are still being surprised that I still play my shapes. "Mama, Not these again!".
I hope they exist in the other world after my death

    Hello there,
Just wondering why there are no more medium, hard or expert level puzzles on the site?
    Were they removed?
I really like the format of the site to project for my students when we are solving puzzles together. Some like a challenge!
